Rock Trust is delighted to announce that it has received new funding from the Gannochy Trust to help secure the future of our Future Builders programme, a project supporting young people in Perth and Kinross to move on from homelessness and build independent lives.
Future Builders brings together affordable housing, practical tenancy training and personalised employability support to help young people develop the skills, confidence and stability they need to thrive.
Since launching, the project has transformed 16 properties that were previously lying empty into high-quality, affordable homes for young people who would otherwise be at risk of homelessness.
Young people in the programme take part in a six-week pre-tenancy programme, covering essentials such as budgeting, tenancy rights and maintaining a home. They are offered the opportunity to take part in the renovations of the property before moving in, developing practical skills for both at home and the future workplace.
They also receive ongoing support from a dedicated Project Worker to explore career goals, build confidence and access opportunities including college courses, work experience and apprenticeships.
Rock Trust works closely with partners including Perth College UHI, Skills Development Scotland and local employers to connect young people with realistic pathways into work and education.
In 2024, we announced that we had extended our Future Builders housing stock in Perth with four newly renovated properties for young people.
Over the next three years, the programme aims to support at least 60 young people to move on from homelessness and towards stable, independent futures.
The renewed investment will ensure that Future Builders can continue transforming empty properties into homes and helping young people take the next steps towards independence.
