Where you live might change. Your right to vote doesn't.

If you are currently homeless and don’t have a fixed address, you can still vote. But you must register by April 20^th.

Currently in Scotland the Scottish National Party (SNP) have the most seats. The other major parties with seats include Scottish Labour, Scottish Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, and Scottish Greens. The Alba Party and Reform Party Scotland also have 1 sitting MSP each. There are other parties you can vote for that don’t currently have any MSPs voted in.

Everyone in Scotland is represented by 1 constituent MSP (your local area) and 7 regional ones. These MSPs have the power to make decisions about all devolved matters (which means they are decisions made in Scotland only and not by UK parliament). You can contact your MSPs about any devolved matter including:

• agriculture and fisheries
• education and training
• environment
• health and social services
• housing
• justice and policing
• local government/ council matters
• transport

You can also contact one of your MSPs about some taxes and aspects of social security – these include:

• Income Tax
• Land and Buildings Transaction Tax
• Landfill Tax
• Best Start Grant
• Carer’s Allowance/Carer’s Allowance Supplement
• Funeral Support Payment
• Young Carer Grant

You have the power to influence decision making in Scotland – to use your voice and experience to create change. Nobody can represent your interests better than you, so don’t miss out on having a say at this year’s elections.

How to register to vote:

You don’t need a fixed address to vote. You can register at:

• a place where you spend most of your time
• a place where you have some connection
• the place where you were last permanently registered to vote

You must be a UK or Irish citizen or qualifying EU or Commonwealth Citizen. Some foreign nationals with specific Leave to Enter or Remain status also qualify.

When it comes to voting day, you will need a valid form of photo ID. If you don’t have one, you can apply for a free voter ID here.
