Our Service Models

We are there for young people at every stage of their journey, whether they’re facing crisis, or rebuilding their lives.

The scope of our work

Our services are youth-specific, trauma-informed, and built around what young people tell us they need. We currently deliver frontline services across Edinburgh, the Lothians, Glasgow, Perth and Fife.

How we are leading change

We respond to where the need is, to the experiences of young people, and to the evidence. We have brought pioneering programmes to Scotland, based on their demonstratable success in other countries, including the Housing first for Youth model, Nightstop community hosting, and our schools-based prevention programme Upstream.

We have shared our learnings through conferences and webinars for audiences across Scotland and Europe and have trained others to implement and deliver. Through our participation on government working groups and cross-sector collaboration, we’ve influenced the commissioning of services and have been part of UK-wide campaigns that have pushed through systemic change.

Our Service Models

We provide safe, stable housing with bult-in support. This is transitional housing, helping young people prepare for independent living. Our single occupancy and shared homes offer more than just a roof, they offer a transitional space where young people can build independence at their own pace, supported by a consistent and caring team.

We currently provide this service in Edinburgh, East Lothian, West Lothian, Glasgow, and Perth & Kinross.

We are actively seeking local authorities and partners to deliver this model and can offer training on set-up and delivery. We’re also seeking property investment and housing sector partnerships to expand our property provision.

Our Housing Support service helps young people who live in their own accommodation, as opposed to housing managed by Rock Trust, to secure, sustain and thrive in their homes. We offer specialist support for those at risk of losing their tenancy, tackling the practical and personal challenges that can lead to homelessness.

We currently provide this service in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Perth & Kinross and Fife.

We are actively looking to engage commissioners and partners to deliver this model and can provide training on effective housing support delivery.

Housing First for Youth supports young people to access permanent housing alongside intensive, flexible, and personalised support – no conditions, no time limits. Based on the principle that housing is a basic human right, we do “whatever it takes, for as long as it takes” to help young people build stability, independence and a positive future.

We were the first charity to deliver this life-changing support model in Scotland and have successfully replicated the service in multiple regions. We currently deliver this service in Glasgow, Fife and West Lothian.

We are actively looking to engage commissioners to deliver this model and offer training on adapting Housing First for young people.

Our Live and Work model combines high-quality, truly affordable housing with tailored support to help young people gain independent living skills and access work, training or education. We believe that secure housing and fair-paid employment, with the right support, are the best route out of homelessness. Accommodation is available in single flats or shared properties.

We currently deliver this service in Perth & Kinross (Future Builders) and West Lothian.

We work with commissioners, provide training, and seek property investment and housing partnerships to expand Live and Work opportunities.

Upstream Scotland is a pioneering, school-based programme that identifies young people at risk of homelessness early, often before teachers or other services are aware. We use a universal screener with whole year groups to assess four key areas linked to homelessness risk: Housing, Wellbeing, Resilience, and School Life. This approach helps us spot hidden needs and connect young people with the right support before problems escalate.

We are currently in our final year of a three-year pilot, delivered in participating schools in Perth & Kinross, West Lothian, Edinburgh and Fife.

The Upstream model first originated in Australia where it achieved a 40% reduction in youth homelessness. It had since has been adapted for use in Canada and more recently Wales by our partners Llamau.

We are looking to work with schools, local authorities, and partners to deliver and scale up this model, and offer training in set-up and delivery.

Our Hubs in Edinburgh and Glasgow provide a one stop shop where young people can access in person support and advice via a range of drop-ins, structured group work and non-direct support via telephone/email/messaging. We work closely with partner agencies to ensure that young people have access to expert support when they need it.

Our Hubs provide a safe space where young people can engage with employability, wellbeing, life skills and advice services in addition to offering social opportunities such as art, music and other groups.

In areas where we do not have suitable space, we are able to offer a ‘Hub on Tour’, outreach version of our Edinburgh and Glasgow Hubs co-located with partners in local community food banks, libraries and community spaces.

We are actively looking to engage commissioners and partners to deliver this model and can provide training on effective support delivery.

Our Health and Wellbeing service offers 1:1 art therapy counselling and groupwork to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young people affected by homelessness.

Young people meet with their therapist for 12 art therapy sessions either in person in our Edinburgh office or online.

We are actively looking to engage commissioners and partners to expand this offer in existing and new local authorities via increased funding and/or access to suitable meeting spaces for counselling sessions.

We have worked with a number of local authorities to design services that identify young people who are under 18, have no formal professional supports in place and in housing crisis or at risk of homelessness. Working closely with young people, schools, parents and carers, we support young people to return or remain at home where it is safe to do so or to identify the most appropriate housing options to meet their needs.

In addition to support, we can provide training to staff and pupils in schools and other youth settings to increase understanding of the causes, warning signs and what to do if a young person is at risk of homelessness.

We are actively looking to engage commissioners and partners to deliver this model and can provide training on effective support delivery.
