Housing support for young people works differently depending on where you live. Each council has its own contact details, processes, and local service – and they can change. We understand that accessing homelessness support can be a daunting process, so we’re here to give you all the support you need.

Edinburgh Housing Team
The City of Edinburgh Council provides homelessness prevention and housing options support specifically for young people aged 16-17, and for anyone under 21 who has been looked after by the council. They can provide emergency temporary accommodation and refer to supported accommodation providers, including Rock Trust.
Care-experienced young people leaving or recently left council care are supported through Edinburgh’s throughcare team, who can help with a Pathway Plan and securing Exceptional Housing Need priority for accommodation.

Glasgow Housing Team
Glasgow City Council provides housing options, information and advice for anyone homeless or at risk of homelessness, including young people. Support includes housing advice, mediation services, and links to council housing strategies.
Glasgow has declared a housing emergency, however, and due to the mounting pressures on its services, waiting times may be long and services provided may be limited. As of June 2026, there were 6000+ live homelessness applications awaiting housing.

Perth and Kinross Housing Team
Perth & Kinross Council has commissioned Rock Trust directly to deliver specialist youth homelessness support in the area. This service can be accessed through referral from schools and other local agencies, as well as directly.
The council’s “Think Twice” project supports young people considering leaving home due to family conflict, with mediation and advice before any final decision is made.

Fife Housing Team
Fife Council provides homelessness advice and prevention support, including information on Housing First, short-term housing support, and their Rapid Rehousing Transition Plan.

East Lothian Housing Team
East Lothian Council provides a 24-hour homelessness service. If you’re at risk of losing your home, get in touch as early as possible. The council may be able to help you stay in your current home, find alternative accommodation, or arrange short-term accommodation while a longer-term option is found.

Midlothian Housing Team
Midlothian Council provides advice for young people considering leaving home, and signposts directly to Rock Trust as one of its recommended youth-specific support services, alongside Young Scot and Citizens Advice Scotland.
If you’re 16 or over, you can apply for council housing and make a homeless application. If you’re under 16, the council will work with you to explore options including support to stay at home, living with another family member, or emergency accommodation if you’re at risk of violence or abuse.

West Lothian Housing Team
West Lothian Council has a dedicated Youth Housing Options service for anyone aged 16 to 25 who is homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Their prevention service will first try to help you stay in your current home or find another option before progressing to a homeless application.
