Active Futures

The Active Futures programme is a newly funded programme that aims to provide an inclusive, sensitive, fun approach to active recreation. Participants are usually vulnerable young women, who are struggling to access mainstream leisure facilities for a variety of reasons. The issues presented range from homelessness, addiction problems, lack of confidence, mental health issues and social isolation.

The project hopes to inspire this hard to reach group and create new opportunities to be physically active. Crucially, the project aims to increase self esteem and self confidence, as well as fitness. The programme runs in 10 week blocks, with 6-7 different types of activities offered on a weekly basis. These activities are varied, from dance and swimming to climbing and other outward bound activities. At the end of a 10 week block participants also have the opportunity to attend a residential activity weekend near Loch Lomond.
