Young People Involvement

It is a way of life at The Rock Trust that we seek to gain young people’s involvement in all aspects of the organisation’s work. There is a very good reason for this. By having the full involvement of young people in what The Rock Trust does, the organisation can feel confident that what they provide and the way it is provided, is both relevant and useful.
Within YPN, choice is key. You can become involved in a variety of different ways, at a number of different levels – the choice is yours! For instance if you are interested in gaining experience in a kitchen, you can become and Underground Volunteer and if you are interested in having your say at a more strategic level, you can join the Youth Participation Group (YPG).

There’s no pressure, no ‘bossy adults’, the staff are here to help not hinder. We are all in it together, to have fun and improve our organisation!

The Rock Trust Youth Participation Group is an action group made up of young people who are currently receiving or have received support from the Rock Trust.  It’s an opportunity to be involved in the everyday running or the Rock Trust by having a say in the decisions and actions that affect your everyday life.

Q:  What’s it all about?

A:  It’s about providing young people with a chance to voice their opinions about the service provided by The Rock Trust.

A: It’s about sharing experiences and coming up with ideas for protecting and improving the service we receive.

A: It’s about discussing what’s important to us and communicating our ideas to the right people to effect change where change is needed.

A:  It’s about developing a sense of solidarity by supporting and encouraging each other to express ourselves effectively.

A: It’s about building confidence and self esteem as we learn and develop new skills that will be of value to us in the future.

A: It’s about engaging us at the heart of the organisation in a way that is relevant,  worthwhile and rewarding.

The group is pretty diverse and we’re keen to welcome any new members.  There’s no massive commitment other than to turn up for the meeting and having an opinion!  Or if you like you can have a more active role and become involved in things like quality control, fundraising and PR! The list is pretty much endless!
We meet up the last Thursday of every month and the meeting place alternates between the Edinburgh and Livingston office.
You are very welcome! We look forward to seeing you!!

The Youth Participation Network - Who We Are

We started our participation group in 2008 as we wanted to make sure that young poeple involved on our services had a strong voice in what The Rock Trust were doing and who they were going about things.  Since then things really have got going and we have been busy on a number of fronts - making a positive contribution to the work and life of the organisation.

The Rock Talk Newsletter

As the voice for young people across The Rock Trust's services its important that we play a role of keeping young people informed about what is happening across the organisation and the work that we are doing.  We aim to do this through this webpage and a regular young persons newsletter - which we call 'Rock Talk'
