Bedrock West Lothian

1. what:

Bedrock provides support and accommodation to young (16-21 year olds) homeless people (or those at risk of homelessness) in the West Lothian area. It operates a number of house model types including shared living (with one other young person), single accommodation and mother and baby accommodation. The service has 15 spaces in total across these different house types.

2. where:

The service has its offices at the centre of Livingston. Its properties are spread throughout West Lothian, includingLivingston, Bathgate, Broxburn, Blackburn and Armadale.

3. support:

Support is provided by a team of Project Workers and Support Assistants. Each young person can receive up to 9 hours of support each week and this can be arranged during the day, night and at weekends. Each young person works with their allocated Project Worker to assess their support needs, create a Housing Support Plan and then use it to help increase their skills and ready them for independent living. Young people can stay in the service for up to two years and during this time can move between house types (e.g. from shared to a single house).

4. costs:

The support is paid for by Supporting People Grant. Young people in the service do not have to pay towards this cost. The rent for the property is paid for by Housing Benefit, the local authority (for care leavers), and by the young person (only if they are working).

5. referral:

The service is a partnership with West Lothian Council and receives all its referrals from its Young Adults Team and Through Care and Aftercare team.
